Artist's Comments

This took me two days. Smooth Bristol paper (11x14), mostly mechanical HB pencil with 4B for the dark spots. Drink up, me hearties, yo ho!

EDIT: 07/16- I took out my trusty ol' 6B and smoothed Mr. Turner and Captain Sparrow more to my liking. The original submission is in my scraps. A big part of my problem here is that these are done with graphite, which reflects the light from the scanner in the blackest places. I think the best solution to this is to smash all machinery and go live in a cave in the woods.

EDIT: 08/14- I went ahead and scanned this in sideways and pasted the two pieces together so you could get the full view of the drawing. I was never quite happy with how it was cropped before.





I notice that I recently have a Print Request for this piece. Unfortunately, I tried to make it a print once before and it was rejected by DeviantArt for copyright reasons. Sorry, guys.

Great work! I love the contrast between the darks and lights in this piece. Check my gallery.. I have done a piece similar to this.

Yeah, the nose looks really funky in this pic because there's such harsh light coming at it. I tried to draw in the outline of the nose, but I had to erase it. I could hear my old art teacher screaming in my brain, "NO OUTLINING!"
